Delhi Police imposes sec-144 ahead of AAP's planned protest
Delhi CM had said that all his cabinet colleagues and Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) MLAs will stage a 'dharna' outside Home Ministry if punitive action not taken against the said policemen. Reportedly the cops had refused to cooperate with Law Minister Somnath Bharti in cracking down on an alleged prostitution ring in South Delhi on Wednesday night.
The AAP government had also sought an action against a policeman who had tiff with Women and Child Development Minister Rakhi Birla in Sagarpur, who allegedly failed to nab those involved in a dowry death case in West Delhi. The Chief Minister had also blamed police for the way in which it handled the gangrape case of a Danish tourist on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a city court today ordered registration of FIR against unknown persons in connection with the midnight raid against African women by a group after Bharti accused the foreign nationals of being involved in drugs and prostitution.
The Home Ministry has also sought a report from the Delhi Police over the above three incidents on which CM Arvind Kejriwal demanded action against police officers for alleged dereliction of duty while threatening of a protest if no action is being taken.
Officials sources said the Home Ministry wanted to know the facts in the cases before deciding on taking action against policemen.
The Delhi Police is administratively under the control of Home Ministry.
Sources said the Home Ministry is waiting for the report of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung as well as the Delhi Police on the three incidents.
Meanwhile, MHA has ordered tightening of security to prevent protesters from reaching Raisina Hill, housing Rashtrapati Bhavan, PMO, Ministries of Home, Defence, Finance and External Affairs, where preparations are on full swing for the Republic Day celebrations.
