NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday that Congress would shortly regret its decision to support the Aam Aadmi Party. In TV interviews, the CM said he had spent the entire day on Saturday going through the files of the 2010 Commonwealth Games and Delhi Jal Board and action would soon be initiated against corrupt officials and ministers of the previous government.
"In the next few days you will see some action taken against corrupt officials and politicians. Congress will regret giving us support. In fact, we never took support from Congress, they forcefully gave it to us. It is the most strange kind of support. We have not ever spoken or even met till now. In our 20 days of being in power, we have set up an anti-corruption branch and action will soon be initiated," he told NDTV.
Kejriwal said that Congress was free to withdraw support any time. "We had even drafted a letter in which we had refused to form government since we did not have sufficient seats. However, that evening Congress sent a letter to the LG offering us support. They accused us of having made promises that we could not fulfill. Now, after all that we have achieved in the government, they are regretting ever having made this offer," Kejriwal told CNN-IBN.
Reacting to Kejriwal, DPCC chief Arvinder Singh told TOI, "We are open to any kind of probe on corruption. We have already said that in our letter. But we will not tolerate anything vindictive. Kejriwal should not shy away from running the government by inciting us to withdraw support because we are not going to do that. He was an RTI activitst and had filed an FIR in the Mandir Marg police station against the CM in the CWG matter. How come he has not taken the files under RTI?"
Outgoing CM Sheila Dikshit, who is known to have been unhappy with her party's decision to extend support to AAP, said that Kejriwal was welcome to inspect any file. "The CWG has already been studied by the Shunglu committee and the CAG. People have really short memories if they can't recall that we were given a clean chit. Kejriwal is most welcome to do whatever he wants to," she said.
In his interviews, Kejriwal denied he was friends with Congress MP and Dikshit's son Sandeep. He also mocked BJP's continuing attack on him. "Why is BJP so scared of us? Have we stopped their rath? Maybe they need to try harder," he said.
